Once the number of servers increase and the network expands, the one man wonder will no longer be a solution.  Hiring a network technician can be difficult decision, but there are a few things to look out for; some are common among all employees, but others are unique to the IT position.  Experience is simply a must, but the experience needs to be in the relevant area.  There are different types of switches, routers, and servers; a technician can be trained in one or multiple types of hardware.  Hardware can require different commands depending on which version of software is loaded and which company manufactured it; the same can be said about the primary operating system used by the company.
